Download N Go Hoppin’ Popcorn~Review & Giveaway!

Earlier in the week I eluded to some fun we were having this week in school.  We have been learning all about popcorn with the Hoppin’ Popcorn unit from Download N Go!

Let me tell you I think this is one of our favorite units. We all love popcorn in our household! Who does not love watching those little kernels pop into a yummy snack!

Here is what you will find in this five day study:

• Day 1: Popcorn — What Is It?
• Day 2: The Story of Popcorn
• Day 3: The Flavors of Popcorn
• Day 4: The Science of Popcorn
• Day 5: Fun with Popcorn

Wow! This unit is not just about popcorn. We learned a lot about corn as well. I had no idea that so many products were made from corn. Items such as batteries!

We also learned about the corn belt which are the states in the U.S. the produce the most corn, including popcorn! The U.S.produces 50% of the worlds corn.

In addition to learning about popcorn we also learned about inventors and inventions, measurement, mapping skills, five different states in the corn belt, vocabulary, acrostic poems and much more! There are wonderful notebooking pages and a lapbook to complete. There is also a fabulous book list with this unit and many embedded internet links throughout the unit.

Some of the fun things we have done with this unit.

Another  fun activity that is in this unit is drawing! We learned how to draw an ear of corn!

Justin’s drawing is on the left and Kaden’s is on the right. Kaden also made corn stalks in his drawing. Can you see them? (you can click the images to enlarge them)

Here is my ear of corn. Yes even grown ups can learn something and have fun learning!  I am not much of an artist but I don’t think I did half bad on my ear of corn! That is one thing I love about homeschooling is that I can learn right along with my kids!

Another fun activity we did was make Jiffy Pop! The boy’s had never made Jiffy Pop and had no idea what to expect! This was a fun surprise!
