Homemade sidewalk paint

Ok I admit it. This summer has been hot here in NJ. So hot that we have spent more time in the house than out of it. To be honest neither I nor the boys are fond of heat and humidity. I really don’t mind the heat but when you combine the humidity with it, ugh. I just can’t function. Needless to say we spent a lot of time inside in the air conditioning or at the pool.  Now that the weather is turning a bit cooler we have ventured back outside and have started doing some of the things I had wanted to do earlier in the season.

Sunday afternoon I decided to make the boys some sidewalk paint. It was super easy! I followed the directions from the Family Fun site. All you need is corn starch, water and food coloring. You will also need a container to put it in. I used a muffin tin.  I made up two batches and it was enough for 12 muffin tins.  You can choose whatever colors you like. We have neon food coloring and thought that would be the brightest.

The boys loved it! They had so much fun and it was so cheap to make we will be doing it again very soon.

This last picture was the only one that I got of their artwork!  My intention was to go back out after they had done some creating. Unfortunately that never happened.  Using this sidewalk paint led to washing the windows the front of the house and my car.  I happened to look at the kitchen windows and noticed paint spatters all over them.  At first I did not realize what they were. Apparently my darling boys decided to have a paint war! Who needs paintball guns when you can arm yourselves with paint brushes! That is my disclaimer for the day! Use this recipe at your own risk! lol.  Seriously, the paint washed off the boys and the car, house and windows!
