My favorite book light ever!

Before Christmas I was searching for a book light. I love to read in bed but Larry needs his rest as he gets up so early to go to work. Sometimes I will read until 12:30 or so and while we do have a lamp over each side of the bed, I know the light bothers him. (he never complains, sweet man that he is). So I set off in search of the perfect book light.

I have had many different books lights, the kind that clip on books, which are a pain because you constantly have to move the light when you turn the page. I have also used flashlights, you know it is like juggling holding a flash light in one hand and a book in the other. Hey if you are into juggling then I guess you wouldn't mind!

I decided to check out Amazon and read some reviews. There are a ton of different book lights available, none of which met my criteria. I had three requirements for purchasing a book light. It had to work well. Cost less than $20 and not attach to a book.

I had pretty much decided on the Lightwedge reading light. It received pretty good reviews but then I read that the screen can scratch easily and that you have to move it each time you turn a page and did not work well on the smaller paperbacks. There was also the price to factor in over $23 and we were on a pretty tight budget at Christmas (we still are!) and I did not want to spend that much on something I was not sure about. There is a lightwedge available for those smaller paperbacks but I certainly did not want to buy two book lights to accommodate different sized books. That would surely defeat the purpose of it being a frugal purchase.

So I decided to ask some fellow book lovers what their favorite book lights were. Where did I turn? To the gals on the FIAR boards (Five in a Row)I got several replies and most of them clipped to the book. Then Heather posted about what her kids use. A headlight!

I asked Larry to buy me one for Christmas. He got me the Energizer 3 led headlight it is similar to this one I have linked. I think the only difference between mine and this one is that mine has a slide switch and the one at Amazon has a push button switch. Oh and the price. Larry bought mine at Walmart for $12.99. I read the reviews at Amazon and there was a complaint about the slide switch turning on easily and running down the batteries. I have not had this problem and I ended up buying one for both boys and they have not had any problems either.

I love this light! It is comfortable to wear and it is very bright. Larry debated on buying the 3 led or the 6 led and ran into a cousin while looking over the headlights in Walmart. She had the 3 led light and told him that 3 was more than enough. She also told him to remind me that when I am reading in bed and Larry talks to me to turn OFF the light before turning and answering him and thus blinding him with the light! lol. She said she had much experience with this particular problem! lol

The light tilts down so you can adjust it to your liking. So now I am able to read hands free with plenty of light and yet not disturb Larry while he is sleeping. I love that I can take it with me anywhere. I takes three AAA batteries. That are included with the headlight. I will be purchasing some more rechargeable batteries soon.

My brother also gave me a tip that the next time I need a headlight to skip Walmart and head to Lowe's. He picked up a three pack for around $20. I just checked the Lowe's site and they have the same Energizer headlight I have for $9.97!

I am now able to read to my hearts content and not disturb anyone. One of my goals this year was to read more books and now I can!
And for the record....I have not blinded Larry.....YET.
