Saving space in the freezer

I have a small chest freezer. I love to cook ahead and have some meals ready in the freezer. It helps us avoid the temptation of eating out too often. In order to utilize my freezer to the fullest, I have been freezing my soups, spaghetti sauce and freezer pickles in freezer bags for sometime now. I am able to stack them and they lay very flat saving me space. I put the soup or sauce in a freezer bag and then lay it on a cookie sheet and put into the freezer until it is frozen (just in case there are any unexpected leaks). I recently stumbled upon a blog, Green Lite Bites. Roni has a great tip for storing your meat very flat in zip top bags. I don't know why I didn't think of this. Store your meat completely flat in zip top bags, which saves alot of space in the freezer. Roni has a video on her site on how she does this. You can find it here. I tried this method over the weekend and it worked fantastic! No more freezing in the container it came in. For more great kitchen tips stop by Tammy's Recipes.

I've always done it this way-my mom taught me this trick years ago. Isn't it great? I also do my pasta sauce in bags like this.

Make sure you tell the kids to lay them flat. DD didn't do this and I had lumpy packages.
