Fall Into Reading Challenge~Wrap Up

I am finally posting my Fall Into Reading Challenge Wrap Up! It's about time wouldn't you say!
Well I don't have anything very profound to talk about. I did manage to read three books out of nine! My reading time is just not what it used to be. I do read alot, not always books, with homeschooling the boys and reading alot to them, my computer time and other commitments both in the home and out, it limits my time. One of my goals for this year is to read more.

Here is what I read:

Sister Chicks Down Under by Robin Jones Gunn.
The sister chick books are fun! Not to heavy reading.
This was a fun and witty book. The story is about two women in their mid forties who are from the same California suburb. They meet for the first time in New Zeland, become fast friends and form a life long friendship. They have some fun adventures while they are "down under" and learn alot about each other, themselves and their walk with God. This book was an easy light read yet had some deeper undertones of God and his faithfulness. This is the second sisterchicks book that I have read. It is actually number four in the series. The sisterchicks books are just plain fun! These are stand alone stories and do not need to be read in order.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I was not planning on reading this book. After reading so many reviews, I decided to read it. Wow! This book has stayed with me and has given me alot to think about. It is a story set in Afghanistan. It is about love, betrayal, shame, loyalty and redemption. It was an excellent story and gave me insight to some of the culture of Afghanistan and the plight of that country. I found it profoundly sad as well. The story is about two friends who grow up together between the 1960's and 1970's and are torn apart by betrayal. Amir the almost cruel friend and Hassan whose loyalty to Amir never wavers. I still think about this book, it has touched me deeply. This is a book I am still pondering.

Kimchi and Calamari by Rose Kent
This is the story about a Korean adoptee, Joseph who is just turning fourteen and his Italian-American family~this includes twin sisters who are not adopted~living in NJ. His family are very much steeped in their Italian heritage.Joseph's teacher gives the class an assignment to track his heritage. Joseph struggles with this assignment. Where does he fit in? Who does he look like? Not his Italian-American family? It raises many questions for Joseph. Does he look like his birth mother? Does she think of him? Why did she give him up for adoption? He goes on a quest to find some information about his birth family and ultamately tells his parents about his assigment and asks for their help in searching for his birth family. This was an excellent story and there is alot of humor throughout the book. If you are an adoptee or an adoptive parent this is a great story. For me it gives me some insight as to how my boys might feel as they grow and question their own identies, feelings on their heritage and where they fit in within our family. It has given me food for thought

I enjoyed all three of these books and I am looking forward to entering a new reading challenge!
